Have you ever had those times in life when you made grandiose plans for your family's Spring Break "staycation" and nothing seemed to go the way that you wanted? Well, that was our week in a nutshell. We were all excited to go see a new Lego exhibit at the zoo, bike ride around Shelby Farms (an amazing outdoor green space near our house) and have friends over to play....well, the spring weather that we had been having for weeks decided to give us one more blast of winter. We got bitter cold temperatures, friends that got sick and even a little snow instead. The kids were bummed and honestly, so was I. I noticed that the more I showed my disappointment, theirs became even more dramatic, so by Thursday, I was determined that we were going to have some fun....NO MATTER WHAT! I surprised the kids with an afternoon of fun! I took them to lunch at one of their favorite burger joints in our city, to the Children's Museum and even to the candy store. These are BIG deals, friends! First of all, I LOVE our Children's Museum, but feel as if I need to take out a loan when we go. (This was only our 2nd time to go as a family.....EVER!) I'm also a bit strict about not letting my kids have too much candy, so you should've seen their sweet faces when I suggested that we go to grab some candy. Our conversations during lunch were ones that I think I'll remember years from now. As I asked them questions about what they see themselves doing in 15 years, one talked about how he wants to become a teacher because he's good with kids and one talked about how she wants to use her love of baking to open a bakery in our city. I just love it when God gives tired, frustrated mamas sweet moments with her kids. It definitely helps me to focus on those memories when life gets crazy and my kids aren't necessarily acting the way that I'd like them to:)
