I'm a planner, people. I love making lists, planning for next year even when I'm in the middle of a current year....I'm one of those. So, I can barely contain my excitement now that summer is here and I have time to really dive into planning the happenings of our homeschool for the fall. One of the most helpful things that I started doing last summer was getting a "big picture" layout of what we would be doing over the year. I use this "big picture planning" form from onlypassionatecuriousity.com to help me do that. It helps me to jot the big ideas down so that I can begin to think about what books and materials that I'll need to gather as the school year approaches. After I print that form and begin to fill it out, it's time to make my book list for each of my little learners. I make a list of the books my kids will read and a list of the books that I plan to read aloud to them. I write these down on the big picture planning form too. This is such a time saver during the year. I can easily look ahead and see what books I'll need to get from the library or order in time for the week that I'll need them. It's also super helpful to have a booklist so that if your area has any used book sales during the summer, you can stock up before the year starts. Our local used book sale is tomorrow....and I am GIDDY with excitement about it!
