Today was the day...the much anticipated first day of a new school year. And it went really well, if I don't say so myself (knock on wood). I'm trying something new this year and "easing" my kiddos back into school. What I mean is that this week we started with our Morning Meeting and Math only. Next week, we'll add Language Arts and Geography and so on. I've never done this before. I'm more of the "if we're going to start, we're going all in" type person, but we battled some negative attitudes last year (are my kids the only ones with those?) and I thought this plan might work well. So far, so good. Again, it's only been a day, though.
A couple of days ago, my hubs took the kids to play tennis and I got a few hours of time by myself at home, which was heavenly, by the way. While making dinner, I blared some music and prayed. I was feeling really anxious about the upcoming year and wouldn't you know it, taking some time to pray about my fears really helped. God gave me a word and an idea all in one simple prayer. I just love when He does that.
So, following God's direction, I took each of my kids on a "date" to talk about the goals that my hubs and I had set for them for this upcoming school year and to hear about what goals they wanted to set for themselves. It was simple, nothing fancy and took about an hour of my time with each one of them. Let me tell you, it was awesome! It was great to have some one on one with each kiddo and relieved so many of my fears as I listened to their honest, heart-felt goals that they had set for themselves. God is good, people. So many times I make things SO much harder than they have to be.
If anyone else is having anxiety over the upcoming year, I encourage you to take a moment to blare your own music, seek God's face and just listen. He's there and He will encourage you.
